A corrective document deserves its own row
Finding a changed number in a later document creates two questions: what changed, and when did that change become available to you? Overwriting the original PDF answers neither. Preserve the original source link and the file you actually saved, then add the corrective document as a new record.
ASX Guidance Note 14 explains that an erroneous document already released on its Market Announcements Platform generally cannot simply be removed or replaced; a corrective announcement is usually the remaining course. The note also describes update or cancellation handling for online-form announcements. This is source context for reading public records, not instructions to lodge anything or legal advice about an issuer's obligations.
Compare exact passages before writing a conclusion
Start with the issuer identifier, original title, source URL, stated release date and any explicit reference made by the later document. Similar titles do not prove a replacement relationship. If the corrective document names the earlier announcement, save that passage; otherwise record the relationship as your own tentative comparison.
Use a table with the original wording, later wording, page or section reference and your note about the difference. Preserve units and qualifiers. Changing 'million' to 'thousand', changing a reporting period and changing a narrative explanation are different edits. A textual difference alone does not establish which interpretation is financially material.
Here is an invented example. An issuer labelled DEMO-ISSUER first writes '12 units for period A' and later identifies a correction to '10 units for period A'. Store both quotations with fictional labels. The arithmetic difference is -2 units; this does not demonstrate a real company's result, a price effect or a reason to trade.
| Record | Fictional supplied text | Relationship evidence | Retain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original A | 12 units for period A | Original source reference | Original file and passage |
| Correction B | 10 units for period A | B explicitly identifies A in this example | New file and link to A |
| Reader note | Difference: -2 units | Own comparison of A and B | Separate from issuer wording |
Separate release time, retrieval time and reading time
The website's release timestamp, the time your device downloaded a file and the time you read it are distinct observations. Keep the source's exact date and zone label before adding your own conversion. If no zone is given, mark it missing rather than assuming it is Sydney time.
For a local diary example, 09:05 on 21 October 2026 in Sydney is 22:05 UTC on 20 October because Sydney is on UTC+11 at that instant. Saving only the UTC date can make the record appear to belong to the previous Australian calendar day. Retain the full offset timestamp 2026-10-21T09:05:00+11:00 and its equivalent UTC instant.
Suppose your fictional original download happened at 09:05 and your correction download at 11:20 in the same Sydney day. Those are your retrieval times. They do not prove the correction was first released at 11:20, or that every reader saw the original beforehand. A missing original file means its historical wording remains unverified in your archive.
Leave an archive another reader can follow
Name files by an internal record ID rather than using a title that may later be reused. Keep the original URL, retrieval timestamp, issuer label, page references and a local file checksum. The checksum can detect later changes to your copy; it does not certify release history or authorship.
Keep your analysis in a separate note. If the later document changes several passages, list them separately instead of describing the whole announcement as 'wrong'. If an attachment is missing, a scanned passage is unreadable or a correction reference is ambiguous, keep that limitation visible. Do not reconstruct unavailable wording from a social post and label it an official original.
This record lets you explain which version you used in a later research note. It does not independently measure a market reaction, show a causal price effect or rank a signal channel. The optional offer link below leads to this site's separate crypto signals and Telegram updates landing page; the public-document comparison does not require that offer.
